I found an old journal from college with some good entries. What stood out to me when reading through the journal, and although I am not entirely clear of my mindset at the time, is how my thinking on these ideas has evolved over time. What is more, many of the questions I had I have found answers to over the years. Interestingly, I actually think I articulated my thoughts better then.
Below is the first entry from my journal, dated October 24, 2016. I have made some edits for clarity.
Why?
Do we do the things we do? Who do we live for? The simple answer seems to be us, ourselves, but is that true? Unfortunately, no.
We walk around, live our daily lives, suspended from our dreams, our wishes, the things that we love.
Our desires are suppressed by the world around us… Our thoughts are suppressed by the people above us… How can a criminal get away with murder? Not in the literal sense, but in the practical sense; how do people excel by undermining the very thoughts and ideas that those before us brought to light in attempts to bring forth Light?
Democracy? For what? Liberty? For what? For greed and corruption? That is nonsense. Rubbish.
WE are better than that.
We live for us. Directly, living for us is living for the people around you. We live to make a change, a difference. To leave the world better than we found it. To leave a legacy of decency, success, love, and happiness. But how?
How do we break the barrier to reach our goals? We sit for hours upon hours, as professors relay messages like robots, and students take it in like their servants. The Supreme Court has 9 Justices. Really? Thanks… How do we get past this?
A degree defines me. A GPA defines me. I am, we all are, better than these societal norms. So why do we give into them? Why do we lay victim to the flawed system that is our world?
We need change. I can do it. Not alone. I can help. I will. I just need the chance. Me, we all, are suppressed by the power of influence. Influence? Suppressed by the power of money.
MONEY = POWER = INFLUENCE
These are the only true facts of our world today. It resonates clear to me, hopefully to many. Maybe not though. I will find it. I know I will. Fortunately, I believe that many close to me know it too. It will come out in here, hopefully, sooner rather than later.
I must be better. We all must be better.
For the sake of our future and our future’s future.
The world is good, it is pure. It has just been absorbed by evil. Luckily absorption can be replaced, relinquished, cleansed, and reversed; To its great, decent, natural state.
Soon…
Some quick thoughts on this, more than 5 years later:
It is clear something deep was on my mind when I was writing this. Surely, the journal entries that follow look into the questions I posed here. It is true today as it was then that the world we live in is in need of repair. What may have been fringe thoughts in 2016 have become mainstream as millions around the world live in despair and lack any sense of belonging or identity.
Trivial matters cloud the self-esteem of good, honest people, leading them down a path toward personal devastation. In turn, the “me against the world” individualistic mentality has indeed pitted the world against the individual in the spiritual rather than the physical sense.
Ask yourself: are you where you thought you would be 5 years ago? If not, what are the reasons why? How many of those reasons are in your control? How many are a result of a system that favors a select few?
I look forward to sharing the next posts here…
BOOKS:
I just finished Night by Elie Weisel Z”L. It was a short but powerful book on the famed author’s time during the Holocaust. I highly recommend it to anyone. I am still reading The Tree of Life and Prosperity by Michael Eisenberg, doing one chapter a week. Will start a new book this week.
